Tips for Better Sleep While on GLP-1
If you are dealing with sleep disruption, these approaches can help.
Take your injection at the right time. If your doctor agrees, shifting your injection to the evening can help. That way, the peak effect of the medication happens while you are asleep rather than during your waking hours. This reduces daytime nausea and can make nighttime more comfortable.
Hydrate throughout the day. GLP-1 suppresses thirst signals, which means many people on this medication drink less water than they should. Dehydration can absolutely disrupt sleep. Sip water regularly during the day, not just when you feel thirsty.
Keep evening meals light. Big, heavy dinners take longer to digest and can increase discomfort at night, especially in the early weeks. A moderate evening meal eaten a few hours before bed tends to work better.
Move your body, but not too late. Light exercise in the evening can support sleep, but strenuous workouts within two hours of bedtime can leave you wired. Give yourself time to wind down physically before you try to wind down mentally.
Manage nausea proactively. If queasiness is keeping you up at night, talk to your doctor about taking a mild anti-nausea medication or adjusting the timing of your dose. Small bland snacks like crackers before bed can also help settle your stomach.
